Lady Gaga to Simi Garewal: I don’t have money

The pop sensation says she has never been concerned about accumulating wealth

After selecting India’s Most Desirable singles, Simi Garewal takes a break to meet international pop star Lady Gaga. The format is different this time too with Simi presenting Lady Gaga’s life story and interspersing it with excerpts from her interview and her music. The singer, who is known for her bizarre fashion sense, opens up about her love for India in this special episode.

Recalling the interview, Simi said, “She was quite upset at the media reports that she will not be doing a concert in India because she wants more money. She said it was entirely untrue and she was sad at the reports because money has never been a criterion for her. ‘I don’t have money – whatever I have I spend on my shows,’ she said. Lady Gaga is dying to connect with India, loves Indian food and she knows she has hordes of fans in India. So she will come to India in October – not for a concert, as she has to shoot for her new video, but for a promotional tour.”

When Lady Gaga said that she found Bollywood interesting and wants to know more, Simi got her good friend Farah Khan to compile some of her best songs in a DVD overnight. “I felt that with her pace of life, Gaga couldn’t have seen much of our Bollywood stuff. Who better to give an introduction to Bollywood dances and songs than Farah Khan? I specially asked her to include Chaiyya chaiyya, Sheila ki jawani, Munni badnaam hui and Dhoom tana. I put Farah’s contact details on the label. You never know when good things can happen.” Gaga was thrilled to get the DVD. “‘Oh my God I would love to see this!’ she said, ‘I’m going to watch this tonight!’” Maybe we’ll see her doing jhatkas and matkas in her next video. Won’t that be fun?
