Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Fashion’: Court refuses to summon script

On June 27 , the court rejected the author’s plea against Bhandarkar for copying the plot of his 2008 film from her book

A Delhi court has turned down a plea for issuing an order to present the script of filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar‘s movie Fashion (starring Priyanka Chopra) on an author’s allegation that the plot of the film was illegally copied from her book.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lokesh Kumar Sharma Wednesday rejected actor-turned-author Seema Seth’s plea but gave her an opportunity to present the script in court through her own efforts.

Seth said in her complaint that presenting the “script of the film in court is essential for proper trial of the case against Bhandarkar and others”.

The court was hearing Seth’s plea alleging that Bhandarkar stole the plot and the idea for Fashion from her book El Dorado, which was published three months before the release of the movie on October 29, 2008. The judge said that Seth would have to arrange the script of the film on her own as the court could not issue directions to call for it without being satisfied with the evidence in the case. November 26 has been fixed as the next date of hearing in the case.
