Know about the late artist’s many muses from B-town

Artist MF Husain, who died on June 9, 2011 in London, might have irked some people for his paintings of nude Hindu deities, but our Bollywood ‘devis’ only reciprocated his love for them by being overwhelmed by his work, his talent and his adoration. His first Bollywood muse was Madhuri Dixit. So besotted was he by her, that he watched her superhit film Hum Aapke Hain Koun…! 70 times! Madhuri even starred in his arthouse film Gaja Gamini. We thought he would have endless love for her, but soon he took a liking for the talented Tabu, and made Meenaxi Tale of 3 Cities with her. Later, Hussain had announced a film with Urmila Matondkar, whom he loved in Rangeela. The artist’s next muse was the petite Amrita Rao, whom he was impressed with in Vivaah. And we really don’t blame him for falling in love with Vidya Balan after watching her super sensual act in Ishqiya, do we? Husain watched the films 12 times – nothing to match Madhuri’s 70, though – and wanted to cast Vidya in a film, not to mention paint her. Vidya was so happy for being the chosen one that she reportedly agreed to pose nude for his work of art – which she vehemently denied when asked. Alas, the artist passed away at the age of 95 before his wish came true. But there was another actor he was enticed by after Vidya – Band Baaja Baaraat girl Anushka Sharma. Not to mention that he watched her film 25 times. And, wait, he also loved Shahrukh Khan (who doesn’t?) and reportedly his painting that SRK ‘finished’ with a couple of brushstrokes was sold for 160,000 pounds. Husain was an artist who was a true Bollywood buff – after all, he began his journey as Hindi cinema poster artist!
