Anubhav Sinha’s latest offering has failed to get the cash registers ringing
Two icons of Bollywood – Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla came together for the very first time on the silver screen with Gulaab Gang. So the box office was expected to be rattling with big numbers. After all, who wouldn’t want to watch this face-off between two former contemporaries on the celluloid? But then came activist Sampat Pal, leader of Gulabi Gang and former Bigg Boss contestant, in the scene and ruined everything. Pal filed a case against the film with the Delhi High Court alleging that the movie is based on her and that the makers didn’t take her permission before making the film, which shows her in bad light. Phir kya hua? Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva had restrained the makers of Gulaab Gang to release the film before May 8. However, everything was sorted and Gulaab Gang released this Friday (March 7), as per the original schedule.
But we must say that the whole controversy has majorly affected Gulaab Gang‘s success at the box office. Yes, the Madhuri-Juhi starrer suffered a bad fate on it’s opening day with a disappointing 5-10% occupancy in the morning shows. Looks like people were confused whether the film has released or not. Another reason behind Gulaab Gang‘s unimpressive start is Kangana Ranaut’s Queen, which also released on the same day. The film has received glowing reviews from the critics due to which people are preferring to watch Queen over Gulaab Gang.
Anyway, the start has surely been low for Gulaab Gang, but will it experience a rise in box office collections? Well, all we can do is just wait and watch. Keep watching this space for all the updates.
