Mallika’s next film Kismat Love Paisa Dilli is being billed as her return to Bollywood, but we wonder how true that is
Mallika Sherawat is one of the first Bollywood starlets to actually aspire to be a Hollywood star. She even got a few blink-and-miss appearances, enough to inspire other starlets to try their luck in the US. She was even the first Bollywood celeb to join Twitter. But The Myth, Hisss and Politics of Love later, she is finally returning to Bollywood. Reports doing the rounds claim that Mallika is making her comeback with a lead role in Kismat Love Paisa Dilli (earlier titled Gyarah Chalis Ki Last Local). She will play a Haryanvi girl onscreen for the first time opposite Vivek Oberoi. She had apparently been offered Jism 2 and a small role in a Yash Raj Films project, but rejected both and chose KLPD for her comeback, as she doesn’t want to do just multi-starrers and item songs any more. What we don’t understand is how this one can be her comeback. Let’s start in 2005 – that’s when she first went West with The Myth. She had proper roles in two films – Pyaar Ke Side Effects (she was the lead) in 2006 and Aap Ka Surroor in 2007. Two lead roles in 2008 – in Ugly Aur Pagli and in Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam. She then concentrated on her ambitious projects Hissss and Politics of Love, but that didn’t stop her from doing item songs in Thank You and Bin Bulaaye Baraati. If any movie can be called her ‘comeback’ film, it has to be Double Dhamaal, as she had a solid, parallel-lead role in it. The comedy released earlier this year, so how is KLPD her comeback, just a few months later? KLPD is the first time in three years that Mallika is the sole heroine, but it doesn’t really qualify as her return to B-town. Then there’s her film opposite Sonu Sood, Lucky Unlucky, slated to release next year too. She is the sole heroine in that, so we wonder why that is not being called her ‘comeback’ film. Any answers, Mallika? Or any good come backs?
