The boxing champ will be seen briefly in the film which is based on her inspiring journey
Mary Kom’s recent triumph at the Olympics shot her to fame, and she has become a national hero, and deservingly so! That’s why we were not surprised when we heard that there is a biopic being made on her. The untitled film was Omang Kumar’s idea and he wanted it to be his debut film. He had started working on it a year ago, and obviously didn’t find any producers because nobody knew Mary back then. It would have been a risk to make a film about an obscure woman boxer, right? But suddenly things have changed, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has decided to produce this biopic for Omang. News is that Mary would be doing a cameo in the film as well.
In a recent interview, Bhansali said, “Even after achieving so much, she (Mary Kom) comes across as a simple and humble human being. Mary Kom is someone who every single person in India is very proud of. She has come a long way. It`s such a wonderful story of her life.” It seems that Bollywood is slowly warming up to biopics. Tigmanshu Dhulia’s well made film, Paan Singh Tomar paved the way for this change. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is another eagerly awaited biopic. Dear Bollywoodlifer, do you think filmmakers should try their hands at this genre?
