Vishal Bhardwaj’s melody from his film Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is romantic and soothing

Vishal Bhardwaj has sung some memorable romantic numbers in all his film albums – Pehli baar mohobbat in Kaminey, O saathi re in Omkara and Bekaraan in 7 Khoon Maaf. In his latest movie Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, he offers a soft melody in the form of Khamakha.

Vishal’s charm lies in his laidback singing and he hooks you instantly. But the track closes with folk singer Prem Dehati’s rendition of Haryanvi chants. It’s quite an ironic end to a romantic number, but it’s obviously situational.

The video is shot in the dusty bylanes of a Haryana village where romance ensues between Anushka Sharma and Imran Khan over bike rides and drawing water from the well. Both seem to find it difficult to understand the depth of their emotions. The imagery in Gulzar’s lyrics – with lines like ubla ubla kyun lagta hai yeh badan, yeh jalan to khamakha nahin – transports you into a romantic zone with ease.
