‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ gets a bonus weekend

Thanks to the delay in the release of Mausam, which has been pushed to next week, the latest Yash Raj film gets an extended run

In Bollywood fate changes every Friday, but when a film gets an extra week to run without any competition, the BO figures can touch the sky. Abbas Ali Zafar’s directorial debut, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (MBKD) is one such film in recent times. While most of the critics panned the film, Katrina Kaif’s rock chick act won her applause from her fans. The euphoria was predicted to be short-lived because of the release of the eagerly awaited Shahid-Sonam film, Mausam. Due to an unfortunate turn of events precipitated by the Indian Air Force, who objected to certain scenes, the release of the film was delayed. This gives MBKD an extended free run, till Mausam hits the screens. Seems that the guys at Yashraj Films were praying really hard for this delay to happen, because after the debacle of Luv Ka the End, MBKD could set the ball rolling as far as BO success is concerned. With the Salman Khan-starrer Ek Tha Tiger coming up next, the production house must be really happy with this unexpected bonus!

I won’t say the critics “panned” the film. It’s received mixed reviews, but mostly positive- towards 3/5ish.
