Movies This week: Katamarayudu

In the last few weeks, quite a few non-commercial, low budget movies have struck a chord with the audience. Malayalam movie Angamaly diaries is one among the many examples. The movie starring 86 newcomers was based on the local people of Angamaly. This unusual gem of a movie, directed by  Lijo Jose Pellissery had superstars from Mollywood stars, Mohanlal, Prithviraj singing its praises. Another such movie that turned out an unexpected hit was Maanagaram  starring Sundeep Kishan, Regina Cassandra and Sri. It was based on 4 people who somehow crossed paths because of kidnapping incident. The movie was praised for its gripping crime story. It marked the debut of Lokesh Kanagaraj. While these movies are faring well at the box office, it’s time for a grand commercial release and what better movie than Pawan Kalyan’s Katamarayudu

Synopsis: It’s the Telugu remake of the TaMil hit movie – Veeram. The original starred Ajith Kumar and Tamannaah Bhatia and went on to become a hit at the box office. It’s about a local man who resorts to violence to get things done. But then he decided to mend his ways for the sake of a girl. But what happens when a gang of goons gets the girl’s family into trouble. Will he go back to his old ways to save the day or not?

Why should you watch it: After Sardar Gabbar Singh’s debacle, Pawan Kalyan is back! From the looks of the teaser, he has made Ajith’s role his own and brought in his own style and attitude, that power stars can’t get enough of. Also, the hit combination of Pawan- Shruti returns with their second film. Do you need anymore reasons?
