MTV SOUND TRIPPIN: Sneha Khanwalkar is on a roll

Watch the first song composed for MTV by Dibakar Banerjee’s protégé

MTV was transforming into a reality show driven television channel as the musical content was taking a beating thanks to Roadies, Splitsvilla and other such shows. As a step in the right direction, the channel is airing a new show, called MTV Sound Trippin, hosted by maverick music composer, Sneha Khanwalkar. Though Sneha made her debut with Ram Gopal Varma’s Go, she came into her own when she worked with filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee. Their collaboration has resulted in brilliant OSTs like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Love, Sex Aur Dhoka and the forthcoming Shanghai.

An official statement from the channel says, “MTV Sound Trippin is about Sneha venturing boldly into the lesser-known India, backpack and recorder in tow, in relentless pursuit of authentic sound. Why Sound? Coz nothing captures the essence of a location or a community better than its local sounds. The sound of local trains in Mumbai or the tractors in Punjab, are an authentic slice of life as it exists there. And these sounds give us a pure, untainted glimpse into that community & their lives.”

Wethinks it is a novel concept and a welcome change from the lame shows that are being aired in the name of television shows. That combined with the super talented host, it is a dream-come-true for music lovers. Watch the first song which is the outcome of the first episode. Let us know if you like it.
