Mumbai Women’s International Film Festival 2013: City roots for women in cinema!

Deadline extended: The first ever Mumbai Women’s International Film Festival will be held in October 2013

B-town, and Indian cinema in general, has seen many successful women directors like Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Farah Khan, Revathy, Nandita Das, Aparna Sen, Kalpana Lajmi and Sai Paranjpye, to name a few. But the industry is also home to numerous talented female technicians, short filmmakers and documentary makers.

The first ever Mumbai Women’s International Film Festival (MWIFF), to be held from October 8-14 (earlier dates were May 16-18) 2013, aims to showcase this talent by awarding the ladies. The three-day event to be held at the Ravindra Natya Mandir in upscale Prabhadevi will screen films and also have lectures, seminars and workshops.

Organised by Oculus, the festival’s Competition section has four categories for participants. The first two are Short Film and Documentary Film, wherein at least one female member (director/cinematographer/editor/screenplay or story writer) should be there in the team. Maximum running time for a short film is 45 minutes and a documentary is 60 minutes. The third category is HER film – Public Service Announcement (PSA) wherein both male and female applicants are allowed. The max running time is five minutes and the theme is Social Cause of Women. The fourth category is Feature Film/Full Length Film where only female directors can apply. The feature film’s maximum running time is 70 minutes.

The Non-Competition section comprises three sections. World Cinebusters will have nominated and winning full length feature/full length documentary films directed by women from prestigious film festivals around the globe. World Panorama will have old and new memorable films, critically or commercially acclaimed, and directed by women. The World Premiere category will showcase movies to be screened for the first time – premiering on the ‘Pink’ screen of MWIFF 2013.

The entry deadline has been extended for MWIFF 2013. Please check the festival website for details. We wish all the best to the participating films!
