The Hollywood writer’s works have inspired quite a few Bollywood movies, the best known being Hum Tum, with Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji
It’s not often that we feature a Hollywood biggie on BollywoodLife. But we felt that Nora Ephron deserved a special mention. The screenwriting legend passed away last night (June 26) in New York City from complications related to acute myeloid leukaemia.
The Academy Award-nominated writer and director is best known in India for her movies When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail and Julie & Julia. Not only was her style very similar to that of Bollywood romances, but her work also ‘inspired’ our filmmakers to make movies such as the Saif Ali Khan-Rani Mukerji-starrer Hum Tum, Shahrukh Khan and Kajol’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Sonali Bendre’s Dil Hi Dil Mein. Ephron, in that sense, had a profound effect on Bollywood cinema. May her soul rest in peace.
