The late producer-director Yash Chopra’s wife Pamela Chopra believes that a grand premiere of her husband’s last film starring Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma is the best way to celebrate the illustrious life of the filmmaker, rather than mourning it
The King of Romance Yash Chopra is no longer among us, but his presence will always be felt through his glorious films. The veteran filmmaker breathed his last on October 21. The 80-year-old was working till he bid his final adieu to the world. And now, barely a week after his sudden demise Yash Chopra’s wife Pamela Chopra has decided to hold the premiere of her husband’s last romantic movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan that boasts a powerful star cast comprising Shahrukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif.
“I want to give my husband an unforgettable farewell. Accordingly, we have decided to have a grand premiere for his ultimate film Jab Tak Hai Jaan exactly the way he wanted it.This is a fitting tribute to a man who would have had it no other way. I have asked my sons Aditya and Uday to go ahead with all the preparations. This premiere is our way of celebrating his illustrious life rather than mourning it,”said Pamela Chopra in an interview to a daily.
Her serene acceptance comes perhaps from the fact that the couple shared a long and happy marriage; in fact, Chopra had said in his 80th birthday interview with Shahrukh Khan that he was planning to spend more time with his wife after completing his last film. That knowledge could have been the reason for that sweet smile on Pamela’s face during her husband’s funeral, we are told by someone who was there – it may have been that she was happy that she knew her importance in his life, or just joy and relief that her husband had the left world peacefully.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan’s lead star Shahrukh agrees with Pamela Chopra’s sentiments. “We are going to have this huge premiere, Inshallah, on the 12th (of November). To me it has become a little more than a film. That is the best way of giving a tribute or the best way to mourn for Yash Chopra’s passing away and to celebrate the fact that he was a part of our lives,” said Shahrukh.
Pamela with her sons Uday Chopra and Aditya Chopra have announced that the grand premiere of Jab Tak Hai Jaan will be held on November 12 in Mumbai. The film will hit the screens worldwide the following day.
