Prateik’s ‘Hosanna’ controversy refuses to die down

Controversy over the Ek Deewana Tha song, Hosanna refuses to die down as the makers of the film file a counter petition against the group that demanded a ban on the use of the word Hosanna

Ek Deewana Tha starring Prateik and Amy Jackson is creating news not just for its lead pair’s alleged romantic association in real life but also for another controversy which is refusing to die down. The film landed in trouble when a Catholic community, Catholic-Christian Secular Forum (CSF) was irked with the word ‘Hosanna’ in a song. The forum has shot off letters to authorities concerned including music composer AR Rahman demanding that the song be withdrawn. It is argued that Hosanna is a prayer in the Bible and sacred to both Jews and Christians, referring to God or Jesus Christ, with strong reverential and religious connotations so it cannot be used in a film.

However, now actor Prateik and the makers of Ek Deewana Tha have filed a counter petition in response to CSF. “Hosanna as a song is a huge success in both Tamil and Telugu markets. It doesn’t make any sense for anyone to have a problem when it is recreated in Hindi. So we have decided to protest against this protest. Our Facebook page has more than one lakh users and we have started an online appeal to respond to the detractors,” said Prateik in an interview. Though the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and The Censor Board have not given their verdict on this matter yet, Hosanna is clearly a chart-buster with radio stations and television channels continuously playing the song.
