Piggy Chops has already lent her voice to UN’s Girl Up campaign and now she’s taken a step ahead to support yet another cause related to the girl child

We hear that NDTV and Vendata have launched a new campaign NDTV-Vedanta Our Girls Our Pride and have appointed Priyanka Chopra as the campaign ambassador. The campaign aims to create awareness about issues related to the girl child and will focus on female foeticide, infanticide, health and education.

PeeCee attended the event held in New Delhi and on being appointed as the ambassador, said, “The upliftment of the girl child in India has been a cause that is very close to my heart. I am honoured to be a part of Our Girls Our Pride, which is a wonderful initiative. NDTV has pioneered several successful campaigns in the past, creating a positive change in the lives of many. With this initiative we aim to change the lives of many girls and provide them with basic necessities to be able to lead a quality life. I’m looking forward to creating a successful campaign that will give everyone an opportunity to come together in making a better and brighter India for our young girls.”

It’s a matter of pride when our B-town celebs take up social causes so seriously. We hope that Priyanka can bring in a positive change in our nation with her latest campaign…Subscribe to me on YouTube

A poem I wrote for the Girl Child in 1996 – which I’d like to share with Priyanka….

    The Girl Child

    A child is born
    A girl child
    Parents mourn
    For it’s a girl child
    A finanacial thorn
    Is the girl child

    Into a world of brawn
    Enters this girl child
    A helpless pawn
    This precious girl child

    From a breast is torn
    A little girl child
    Into a river at dawn
    Sinks the girl child
    All love withdrawn
    From this girl child

    They stand forlorn
By the crib of the girl child
    And blow a horn
    If not a girl child

    Let her love
    Let her live
    Let her learn
    If she’s a girl child
    And she’ll love you best
For she is a girl child.
