Priyanka Chopra to star in the ‘Zanjeer’ remake

After a lot of speculation about who will play the love interest in the Ram Charan Teja-starrer, we hear that Piggy Chops has bagged the plum project

While the debate about remaking old classics is still on, one of our spies told us that Priyanka Chopra will be essaying the character played by Jaya Bachchan in the Zanjeer remake. Co-writers of the original film Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar have still not given their official consent, but the makers of the new one are going about their business as if that consent doesn’t matter. May be it doesn’t, because the casting announcements have become a daily affair.

We recently told you that Arjun Rampal will be playing the character Sher Khan immortalised on celluloid by Pran. This latest development regarding Priyanka’s inclusion has got us even more excited about the project, because a number of leading ladies in B-town had turned down the offer because they weren’t very keen on sharing space with Telugu dude Ram Charan Teja, who is making his Bollywood debut.

Unlike Jaya Bhadhuri in the original Zanjeer, Priyanka will not be playing a low-brow character in the remake. Our sources say that the role has been customised to suit Piggy Chops’ persona. We hear that she will play a woman of today and will be seen in the role of a US-returned café owner. She will be dressed most glamorously, but will not do any songs or item numbers.

That makes us wonder why PC is staying so far away from item numbers, especially after she rocked it in ‘Desi girl’ and so many other songs. And we all know that a good jiggle-wiggle is what keeps a lady in the limelight even if her movie is a dud. Remember Katrina Kaif’sShiela ki jawani’ from Tees Maar Khan? Take that as a hint, Priyanka and show us those deadly moves again soon!
