After getting a bumper opening of Rs 51.35 crores on the weekend of its release, the collections of the Abbas Mustan suspense thriller slumps to Rs 24.75 crores in the last four days
The makers of Race 2 and all those who are anxiously looking forward for the movie to touch Rs 100 crores will have to wait for few more days. The multi-starrer, considered to be the first official hit of 2013, earned Rs 51.35 crores nett in its opening weekend at the box office, but failed to meet the huge expectations on Monday. The collections hit a low with the movie earning only Rs 7.5 crores on Monday, and it went down by exactly Rs one crore to Rs 6.5 crores on Tuesday. Race 2 hit its lowest mark with Rs 5.75 crores and Rs 5 crores on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Though the movie had no big releases to compete with, it has managed to rake in only Rs 24.75 crores in the last four days.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, “The movie had an excellent opening weekend due to the Republic day holiday on Saturday, but the business suffered from Monday onwards. The decline was more in mass-dominated circuits. Race 2 collected approximately Rs 76.10 crores nett in week one. Breakup: – weekend Rs 51.35 crores, Monday 7.5 crores, Tuesday 6.5 crores, Wednesday 5.75 crores and Thursday Rs 5 crores.”
Considering this week’s low earnings, we doubt if Race 2 will become the first film of the year to enter the coveted Rs 100 crores club. Fingers crossed!
