The Thalaivar turns 63 today
Born on December 12, 1950, Shivaji Rao Gaikwad who we know as Rajinikanth did quite a few odd jobs before joining films. Between 1966 and 1973, the Superstar did many odd jobs to survive. He worked as a bus conductor and a coolie too. After this, Rajinikanth did a few stage plays and then joined Madras Film Institute in 1975. Around the same time, Rajini started his film journey with a Tamil film called Apporva Raagangal starring Kamal Haasan and Srividya. In this National Award winning film, the veteran actor played the role of an abusive husband. Following this, Rajinikanth did a lot of negative roles. In 1978, he did Bairavi in which he was cast as the main actor. After this one, the Superstar did a variety of roles in various films like Mullum Malarum, Thalapathi, Thillu, Mullu, Rajadhi Raja, Raja Chinna Roja , Mappillai, Chandramukhi, Kuselan, Baba, Sivaji: The Boss and Enthiran amongst many international as well as Bollywood films.
Rajinikanth has been called the most popular Indian film actor of his time. The Enthiran actor’s popularity is all thanks to his onscreen persona, his unique dialogue delivery, his political statements and his larger than life superhero appearances in the film. Rajini is known for his gravity defying stunts and his masala punch lines that the audience enjoys the most. The Thalaivar has won 43 awards for his contribution in cinema.
The actor is now gearing up for the release of Kochadaiiyaan directed by his daughter Soundarya R Ashwin which is now apparently pushed to April 2014. The film is a period drama which is shot using motion capture technology in 3D. The film also stars R Sharathkumar, Aadhi, Deepika Padukone, Shobana, Jackie Shroff amongst others. We hope this film is bigger than his previous releases. On this day, we wish the Superstar a healthy and a prosperous year ahead.
