The popular series which dealt with the 1947 partition will return to Doordarshan on Thursday, July 25
Directed by Ramesh Sippy and Jyoti Sarup, the Buniyaad series became one of the most popular daily soaps to be aired on Doordarshan. Aired for the first time 27 years ago – the show is now coming back on the National channel.
The director of the serial, Ramesh Sippy said, “It’s a classic and therefore there’s a recall value among people who watched it. I am hoping this time younger people will watch it too.”
To make the occasion special, Mr Sippy threw a reunion party for the cast and crew of the daily soap on July 20. “The airing date was so sudden that there wasn’t much time to prepare for the party. I am not into such grand parties, but this time I felt like we should do it. The talk of the partition always keeps coming up, even during times of peace. This is a good way to remind people of all that had happened. How our people have lived and worked together for this day,” says the veteran filmmaker.
The show was studded with some brilliant actors like Alok Nath, Anita Kanwar, Kiran Juneja, Asha Sachdev, Dalip Tahil, Kanwaljit Singh, Krutika Desai and Neena Gupta who had paved their way into the industry with this show.
Kiran Juneja said, “I was naïve when I took up this role. At the end of the show, I would get offers to play the role of mothers. Buniyaad left a lasting memory in people’s life. I am so excited that the show is going to be telecast once again. Waiting eagerly for 25th July.”
Alok Nath, who played Master Haveliram – the lead role in the daily soap said, “We were all new when we joined Buniyaad. The show became our foundation in the industry. It gave us a name in this competitive industry. It was such a pleasurable moment and all thanks to Rameshji for being a great friend, mentor and philosopher. Now I am just eagerly waiting to relive those memories.”
The show will be aired twice weekly, Thursday and Friday at 8:30pm on Doordarshan.
