Dum Maro Dum star Rana Daggubati talks about the tough time he had talking in Hindi
Rana is not the first newbie in Bollywood who has major difficulty talking in our national language: Hindi. A lot of the recent freshers are trying to make it big here by improving their command over the language, including Arunoday Singh, Giselle Monteiro and Nargis Fakhri. Rana was called in to play the role of a DJ in Dum Maro Dum after he got noticed in his debut movie Leader, a Telugu film. But the journey hasn’t been easy for him, considering he’s not quite comfortable talking in Hindi. “My Hindi is very Hyderabadi; I never studied it as a language. I mostly speak Telugu, Tamil and English. My primary thinking language is English. I went through diction training while shooting for DMD. I was taught how to pronounce things right. My diction trainer would correct me every now and then. It was tough to get the gender right and my character also had to talk a little Konkani and, considering that’s a language which is almost foreign to me, I truly had a tough time,” he said. Now that the dishy actor has opened many doors for himself in Bollywood, he obviously needs a diction trainer for every movie he does. Any ardent Rana fans interested in applying for the job?
