The Rockstar actor has jumped on the mega-buck bandwagon – like Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan – by reportedly signing a whopping deal with Disney UTV for his new musical comedy
With his record at the box office, Ranbir Kapoor’s career is at an all time high. If the garma garam news we heard is true, the beta of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh should be smiling all the way to the bank. Reportedly production house Disney UTV has closed a production deal for the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Jagga Jasoos (JJ) for about Rs 100 crore.
Though Siddharth Roy Kapur, MD Disney UTV confirmed the deal with Ranboo and Anurag Basu’s new production house Picture Shuru Productions, he refused to comment on the monies involved. But a little bug we planted tells us that Kapur’s company has shelled out almost Rs 100 crore for the one-film deal.
“Ranbir has made some smart career moves and all his ‘so called gambles’ have paid off handsomely, so everyone wants to be associated with the young actor,” said Apoorva Mehta, CEO, Dharma Productions. The Besharam actor’s Bombay Velvet directed by Anurag Kashyap has been acquired by Fox Star Studios and the deal was signed for Rs 80-90 crore.
Disney UTV believes it has the potential to emerge as the first Disney-branded franchise out of India, with scope for sequels, merchandise, graphic comics, a television show, online games and much more. By co-producing JJ along with his Barfi! director, B-town’s youngest heartthrob could end up with the largest slice of the pie – a profit share that is almost 30 percent, besides his remuneration (approximately Rs 15 crore). Now we know why Abhinav Kashyap rightly said that Ranbir is India’s biggest superstar!
