Ranbir Kapoor’s Barfi! Or Vidya Balan’s Kahaani – which film will be selected for the Oscars this year?

Ranbir Kapoor’s Barfi! Or Vidya Balan’s Kahaani – which film will be selected for the Oscars this year?

The Film Federation of India (FFI) has made a list of films to be sent to this year’s Academy Awards. And the competition looks tough!

Every year Film Federation of India (FFI) sends some critically acclaimed and highly appreciated films from the country to the jury of the Academy Awards. This year too, the esteemed panel of the Oscar – comprising 16 members – will receive the select list of films as India’s official entries to be screened. One of these films will be selected by the judges to represent India in the Best Foreign Language Film category to compete with the entries from the other foreign countries.

AR Murugadoss’ science fiction thriller 7Aum Arivu and Balaji Sakthivel’s Vazhakku Enn 18/9 are the two films from Tollywood among the 16 films short-listed by FFI for screening. Bollywood too has its high and mighty presence in the list. In fact, Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur (part 1 and part 2), Anurag Basu’s Barfi!, Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Paan Singh Tomar, Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani and Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture are all set to give a tough competition.

So far, in the history of Indian cinema, only three Bollywood films – Mehboob Khan’s Mother India (1957), Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay (1988) and Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan (2001) – have made it to the nomination stage. We hope this year at least one of the above mentioned critically acclaimed films will manage to impress the jury members and bag an Oscar to make India feel proud.

Tell us, which film, in your opinion, should be selected as India’s official entry for the Oscar and has the best chances to win Best Picture in the foreign language category!

It should be Kahaani… Actors were new to bollywood except Vidya, …Lots of twist and the climax is extremely unpredictable…so it deserves. Barfi is very emotional movie!!! Ranbir and Priyanka acted really well.

I watched Barfi and if i am honest it was more a satire than a great film.
It was nice to watch thats all. But if you watch kahaani it has got great element to hook you from beginning to end

Kahaani of course..barfi was good but Kahaani was just mind blowing. But the people at the Oscars are racists, they will never give any award to an Indian movie

Both the moviez are deserving enough.. But, only one cane be sent from India. Kahaani has great elements, not a masala movie and intelligent too. I haven’t seen Barfi, but looking at the trailers, it looks like a French or Polish movie.. They make this kind of art movies.. Barfi has been selected. All the best.

The selection of Barfii is on the flow of emotion and business oriented…Films like Paan Singh Tomar, Kahaani and 7 Aum Arivu are trillions times better than Barfii…And one of the critically acclaimed and commercially success film of the year Vicky Doner was not in the competition…reports says that FFI juries has received huge kickbacks from the makers of Barfii…the selection of Barfii as an official Indian entry will make it grow more in Box-office business especially among multiplex audience..thats why Barffi was selected…shame absolute shame
