The success of the Rockstar actor’s differently abled act in Anurag Basu’s film being sent to the Oscar will be echoed on television and be recreated in graphic novels…maybe!
Anurag Basu seems to have moved on from the huge success that Barfi! has become. It has been about two weeks since the release of the Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra-Ileana D’Cruz-starrer and it has not only made Rs 100 crore at the BO, but has also won glowing reviews from critics and audiences alike. It’s another matter that Basu has been accused of plagiarising scenes from various award-winning films from across the world. The plagiarism-inspiration-tribute debate is heating up, but the makers of Barfi! seem to be keen on cashing in on its recent nomination to represent India at the Academy Awards this year.
We heard that there were talks on about making a television series of this heartwarming story. Director Basu is busy scripting his next film, so the development is being helmed by producer UTV Motion Pictures. And there is more. If our source is to be believed, an international publication house wants to create a graphic novel based on Barfi! The deal is still in its very nascent stages, but it might be first of its kind for a non-superhero project. For now, we hear that Basu and his producers are trying to crack the Oscar code – for which they are consulting Aamir Khan, who has been there, done that with Lagaan.
Do you think it is a good idea to spin a television series and graphic novels around Barfi!?
