RD Burman’s biopic on hold

Contrary to reports, Vicky Donor director’s next film is not about Panchamda

RD Burman’s life story lends itself to interesting cinema and many filmmakers have expressed their desire to make a biopic on the legend’s life. Of all announcements, writer Soumik Sen’s version of the biopic, which was supposed to be directed by Anurag Basu seemed to be the most genuine. Vinay Pathak was supposed to play RD and Chitrangda Singh was going to be cast as Asha Bhosle. Panchamda fans all over the world were very excited when this news came out, but the happiness was short-lived as the project didn’t take off.

We just heard that Shoojit Sircar, the director of the season’s sleeper super hit, Vicky Donor will be making the biopic on the musical legend. When we spoke to Ronnie Lahiri, who had co-produced VD along with John Abraham, we heard a totally new story. After the success of the Ayushmann Khurrana-Yami Gautam-starrer, the production house has been flooded with scripts. The RD biopic is one of the films they might make sometime later, but nothing concrete can be said about it at this moment.

Right now they are working on a political-thriller titled Jaffna which will be shot mostly in Indian and some parts of Sri Lanka. The cast hasn’t been finalised yet, but announcements will be made soon. For now, the team is basking in the well-deserved glory brought to them by Vicky and his fertile donations.
