Remake rights of Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan sold for a record price – read all details here

Pulimurugan has turned out to be one of Mohanlal’s biggest hits, apart from it being his most expensive film till date. To add to it, it has performed phenomenally at the box office. And now we hear, the remake rights for all Indian languages have been sold at a record price to Abhishek Films. Well considering what a mega hit this movie has turned out to be, this was only natural. Right from the day one, the movie opened to glowing reviews, fans can’t stop gushing about Mohanlal’s common man avatar. On day 1 itself the film managed to collect Rs 4.08 crore, only to become the second movie after Rajinikanth’s Kabali to rake in this kind of collection. Within 3 days  the movie crossed Rs 10 crore mark. At the end of the 5 day Dussehra weekend, the movie had doubled its collections to Rs 20 crore. The movie has remained more than steady at the box office, even after 15 days it it continues to reign at the box office. It has crossed the 35 crore mark already. In fact, there are reports claiming that Pulimurugan could just be the first Malayalam movie to enter the Rs 100 crore club. Whoa!

Pulimururgan is about a lorry driver who holds an old grudge against tigers since one fo them killed a family member. He also happens to be an expert in hunting them down. One of the biggest highlights of this movie is the 20 minute climax sequence between Mohanlal and a real life tiger choreographed by the renowned Peter Hein. Set in the jungles of Vietnam, the movie calls for a compelling visual spectacle. It is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 25 crore.

This is Mohanlal’s third hit after Oppam and Janatha Garage. In Oppam, Mohanlal takes on the role of a blind man who unintentionally gets involved in a murder and then senses the murderer lurking around them. It marked the comeback of the popular director-actor jodi – Mohanlal-Priyadarshan. The movie has so far collected Rs 50 crore worldwide. The there was the Multi-starrer Janatha Garage. The movie opened to rave reviews and managed to enter Rs 100 crore club. Looks like Mohanlal is on a dream run.

Currently he is also involved with his son’s debut. Pranav Mohanlal will be seen in a thriller directed by Jeetu Joseph of Drishyam fame. So let’s see if Pranav makes it sans the ‘superstar’s son’ tag.
