19th Kolkata International Film Festival: Rituparno Ghosh’s Taak Jhaank to open fest

Taak Jhaank (Sunglass), an unreleased film by Ghosh will be screened at the KIFF on November 10. The same day, Sachin Tendulkar plays his last test match….

Rituparno Ghosh died on May 30, 2012 after a massive heart attack. But his work lives on, wowing audiences with every show. Taak Jhaank (Sunglass) an unreleased film directed by Ghosh will bring him back into the limelight on November 10 this year – it will be screened to inaugurate the 19th Kolkata International Film Festival. A whole galaxy of stars will be present, including Amitabh Bachchan, who worked with Ghosh in the English film The Last Lear, West Bengal ambassador Shahrukh Khan and Kamal Haasan. Taak Jhaank stars Jaya Bachchan and Naseerudddin Shah, joining forces for the first time. It is a satire on magic surrealism, a tale told with the characteristic Ghosh finesse.

But what makes the opening day of the 19th KIFF more special is that November 10 is when Sachin Tendulkar will play his 199th test match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The next match, his 200th, will be at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and will be his last before the ace cricketer retires. If he makes it to the very sparkly red carpet of the opening night of the film festival, it will make the event even more memorable than anyone could expect!
