The Chennai Express director turns 40 today!
Born on March 14, 1973, Rohit Shetty is known for his commercially successful films like Golmaal, Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3, Singham and Bol Bachchan. Originally from Mangalore, Karnataka, Rohit is the son of late actor and fight director MB Shetty who was popularly known as Fighter Shetty. Right from childhood Rohit was interested in films. He started his career at the age of 17, as an assistant director in Kuku Kohli’s blockbuster film Phool Aur Kaante. The film also marked the debut of Ajay Devgn with whom Shetty developed a strong rapport and went on to direct his first film Zameen. The movie did not fare well at the box office but that did not deter the young filmmaker.
Shetty rose to fame with his 2006 film Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, starring Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Sharman Joshi. After tasting success with this venture, he went on to deliver commercially successful movies like Golmaal Returns, Sunday, All The Best and Golmaal 3. His 2011 production Singham is considered one of the biggest financially successful films of all time. Last year, Shetty made Bol Bachchan with Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay Devgn and with this production, he proved once again that he gets it right every time with his comedy dramas. This year, Shetty will present his next venture Chennai Express starring Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. This is Rohit’s first film without his lucky mascot Devgn.
