Sajid Khan: Housefull 2’s collections are a slap on the faces of critics

Reviewers may have highly criticised Housefull 2, but the comic caper’s director says he knows what his audience wants

Barring a few reviews, Sajid Khan’s Housefull 2 is widely censured for its juvenile gags and mindless storyline. However, it didn’t stop the audiences from going to the theatres and watching it. In fact, the film collected over Rs 50 crore at the box office in first four days of its release. And that is all it takes for the director to overlook criticisms and dance with glee.

In an interview, reacting to pointed comments given to Housefull 2, Sajid said, “Harsh film reviews are a part and parcel of the job. At the end of the day, no one loves a particular film in its entirety. Whether it’s Titanic, The Godfather, Avatar or 3 Idiots’, a film is always the result of someone’s belief system. But I feel that everything boils down to how it fares at the box-office. Success at the box-office is a test whether a film has been accepted or not. I have always maintained that I don’t give a damn about critics. The collections are a big slap on their faces. For me, critics have zero value. I feel that only a person who buys a ticket to watch my film has the right to judge it: praise it or spit at it.” All we can say, is that beggars can’t be choosers – with limited range of movies running in the theatres there’s very little the audience can do especially on a  weekend.
