The eternal bachelor of Bollywood turns 48
Born on December 27, 1965, Salman Khan began his Bollywood journey with Biwi Ho To Aisi. Though this film failed to create magic, his next film Maine Pyaar Kiya that released in 1989 was a huge hit. Salman won the Filmfare Best Male Debut award for his performance and was also nominated in the Best Actor category. After this one, he had Patthar Ke Phool, Sanam Bewafa, Kurbaan and Saajan back to back and all these films did well. After these he teamed up with Madhuri Dixit for Sooraj Barjatya’s family drama Hum Aapke Hain Koun!! which broke all records and became one of the biggest Bollywood hits.
Following the success of this film, he gave a number of hits such as Karan Arjun along with Shahrukh Khan, Judwaa, Biwi No 1, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and Hum Saath Saath Hai and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The actor won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in KKHH. In 1999, Sallu also delivered Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam with Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgn. The film won a lot of critical as well as commercial success. After this, he started experimenting with different films and did Tere Naam, Baabul, Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, Partner and No Entry. In 2008, Salman’s filmi career took a complete turn with Prabhu Dheva’s Wanted. This film was a game changer for Salman career-wise. After this most of his films released became popular due to the character he portrayed, these include Dabanng, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger and Dabanng 2. He will soon be seen in Jai Ho which releases in January 2014.
Apart from films, Salman is also a successful host. He did 10 Ka Dum which got high TRPs thanks to the Dabanng dude’s popularity. He is now popular for being the host of the controversial reality show Bigg Boss. Along with television and films, the actor is also known for his involvement in charity. The actor started and NGO called Being Human which sells T shirts and various other products. The NGO helps the underprivileged through this initiative.
