The Dabangg actor has agreed to return to the banner for a full-fledged role

He’s been Chulbul Pandey, Lovely Singh, Veer, Samir and many others, but after a long time he’s going to be Prem yet again. Not just any Prem. His Prem in Ready and in No Entry were hardly iconic. Salman Khan is returning as Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem and that’s definitely something to be excited about.

Sallu has signed Barjatya’s next, titled Bade Bhaiyya – we hear that he will play the title character. No, your idol is not venturing into character roles. He may play a brother, but his name is still Prem and he is definitely the hero of the film. Sooraj is yet to cast the other actors, but Bade Bhaiyya is set to go on floors in a few months’ time. Salman will be done working on the only film he has on hand, Dabangg 2, by then.

For those who’ve been living under a rock and are wondering what the fuss is all about, let us tell you a story. In the ’90s, Salman essayed three different characters – all of them named Prem – in Barjatya’s Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun! and Hum Saath Saath Hain. The films established Sallu’s career and his characters became icons. The black buck controversy during the shoot of Hum Saath Saath Hain soured his relationship with Sooraj’s father and the patriarch of Rajshri Films, Raj Kumar Barjatya. Salman then went on to play Prem in other films – No Entry, Biwi No. 1 and Ready. It took ten years of reconciliation attempts (and flop films for the banner) before the anger cooled and Salman was roped in for a cameo in the Barjatyas’ 2010 production Isi Life Mein.

Ever since the two sides hugged and made up, there has been speculation that they’ll come together for a film with Salman in the lead. But it’s only now that we’ve finally heard something at least partly official about it. We can’t wait for Salman to confirm it. Aren’t you excited too?
