The director, whose recently released film tanked at the box office, has been taking his frustration out on the critics
The Tusshar Kapoor and Kulraj Randhawa starrer Chaar Din Ki Chandni, which released along with Vidya Balan’s Kahaani, sunk at the box office. That has obviously upset director Samir Karnik, who has been blaming the critics for panning his film. The Yamla Pagla Deewana director vented out his frustration at a recent post promotion event. “A person who watches my film and eats popcorn from my money has no right to say anything about my film. The audience should be the only critic. We make the film for the audience and we hope that people write well about the film so that the audience goes for it. That’s my mistake, I agree.”
We understand Mr Karnik’s plight, but we hope that the director learns from his mistakes instead of blaming the critics for the failure of the film. The battle between filmmakers and critics has been going on forever. But how come the director didn’t mind it when his Yamla Pagla Deewana got generous comments from the same critics! Nonetheless, that’s not all that’s bugging Samir. The filmmaker is also miffed about the fact that Yamla Pagla Deewana, despite being a hit, wasn’t nominated at any of the award shows. Guess there were better films Mr Karnik!
Anyway, we’d advice the director to take a chill pill and focus his energies on making a good film, instead of tearing apart the critics. Probably then his film will be applauded by the critics, the audience and the award shows alike.
