No Aamir Khan or Ranbir Kapoor for him – filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra has confirmed that his third production of Munnabhai will have the original pair and it takes off in 2012
You can fling water on the endless speculations and rumours about if and whether the third of the Munnabhai series will happen and with whom. Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the man behind the favourite cinematic tale of recent times, has finally put an end to the never-ending speculation around Munnabhai. The filmmaker has said in an interview, “We are developing the script and will start shooting in 2012.” However, Munna and Circuit aren’t taking off to America (it was rumoured to be called Munnabhai Chale America), as hinted by the film’s director Rajkumar Hirani in the past. Instead, the third in the ever-popular series will be called Munnabhai Ki Aatma Katha. And the original pair, Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, will return to play the immortal characters of modern Hindi cinema – Munna and Circuit. This means that there is no truth in the widely-circulated gossip that Hirani was thinking of casting Aamir Khan, because of their comfortable rapport developed on the sets of 3 Idiots. Or that there is any significance to the director’s recent meeting with a younger actor, Ranbir Kapoor. Thank god for that, ‘coz we are sure no one other than Sanjay and Arshad can manage the exceptional camaraderie between Munna and Circuit. Coming back to MKAK – we are pretty curious to know how the story will pan out, since from the name it sounds like an autobiography. Will the tale go back in time and bring to life the young days of Munna and Circuit? Maybe or maybe not. Whatever it may be, we are glad that finally we know that Munnabhai will happen and the 52-year-old actor will once again shine as the endearing character.
