Sanjay Dutt returns to Yerawada Jail in Pune on Saturday as his extended parole came to an end on Friday. Dutt has not sought any further extension as he has already been granted parole three times in less than a year
Sanjay Dutt was out on parole since December 21, 2013. He was due to return to Pune`s Central Jail on January 21, but he sought and was given extension of another month (till February 21) in his parole. The Bollywood actor then sought further one-month extension of his parole to nurse his wife Maanyata, who was recovering after surgery.
Dutt will now be returning to Yerwada Jail, where he is serving his 42-month jail term.
In an embarrassment for the Maharashtra government, the Bombay High Court had on February 25 pulled it up for showing “extra diligence” to Dutt in the matter of granting him repeated paroles.
Dutt had applied for the first parole as he had to get his knee treated. On the second occasion, he applied on the pretext of looking after his twin children in the absence of his wife (Maanyata), who was undergoing treatment in a city hospital. And on the third occasion, he wanted to be by his ailing wife`s side who was yet to recover from her illness and had to undergo further treatment.
The actor surrendered himself before the TADA court on May 16, 2013 and has been serving his remaining 42-month jail term after being convicted by the Supreme Court for illegal possession of arms in relation to the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
