The Bollywood dance guru turns 65 today
Born on November 22, 1948, Nirmala Kishanchand Sadhu Singh Nagpal better known as Saroj Khan turns 65 today. Being from a Punjabi family she started her career as a child artiste at the age of three. She got married to Sardar Roshan Khan. She began her dancing career as a background dancer in the late ‘50s. Since then she has grown on to becoming one of the topmost choreographers in the industry with more than 200 films to her credit.
She received the National Award for choreography thrice – Devdas, Shringaram and Jab We Met. Apart from this, Sarojji has also won many Filmfare trophies for her choreography. She also received an international honour in the form of American Choreography award for her outstanding contribution to Aamir Khan’s Lagaan. Songs like Hawa hawai, Main nagin tu sapera, Oh meri Chandni, Tamma tamma loge, Dhak dhak karne laga, Ek do teen, Dholi taaro dhol baaje, Dola te Dola, Pritam pyare are some of her super hit numbers. Apart from films, Saroj Khan has also been seen on television co-judging dance shows such as Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Nach Baliye.
