Bollywood behemoths Shahrukh Khan and Ajay Devgn make their first moves in the war over who will capture more theatre screens this Diwali
Diwali is a time when the biggest hits of the year are made at the box office, and actors and producers are known to have an eye out for a release during the festival even before their films begin shooting.
A similar case is of Yash Chopra’s yet-untitled Shahrukh Khan-starrer and Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar. It seems the studios producing the two films are trying their level best to muscle each other out of as many cinema screens as possible.
Yash Raj Films has already cut deals with a majority of theatres to release its Shahrukh-Katrina Kaif flick in as many screens as Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger. In a bid to undermine SRK’s film, Eros International and Viacom 18, who own the rights to Son of Sardaar along with Ajay Devgn, have allegedly begun bullying distributors. They’re apparently threatening to back out of screening their other productions – OMG! Oh My God, Bhoot Returns, Aiyyaa and Chakravyuh – if the theatre owners don’t give as much importance to Son of Sardaar as the SRK-starrer.
Word is that Ajay Devgn is desperately looking to surpass Shahrukh in terms of BO earnings, while SRK on the other hand badly needs a hit and wants to overtake Salman’s Eid release Ek Tha Tiger. May the best movie win wethinks! What say?
