Shatrughan Sinha, Govinda in Pahlaj Nihalani’s Avatar!

The veteran actors come together after more than two decades, but will they actually share screen space?

Shatrughan Sinha and Govinda worked as co-stars for the first time in Pahlaj Nihalani’s Ilzam released in 1986, the film that made Govinda a dancing sensation – remember the song ‘Duniya ki aisi ki taisi’ featuring Govinda and Neelam? The very next year Shatru and Govinda delivered splendid performances in Rakesh Roshan’s Khudgarz, a musical blockbuster. Their association resulted in films like Shiv Shakti (1988), Aakhri Baazi (1989) and Billoo Badshah (1989), all of which failed miserably at the box-office.

For producer Nihalani, life has indeed come full circle – he has roped in his two favourite actors (with whom he also shares a very good personal equation) in his forthcoming film, Avatar. This one was in the news at the start of this year, when there were speculations about the film’s storyline and Govinda’s character, which by now is known to all – he plays a football coach (next, even camels will sing!). Sources close to Chi Chi…oops, Govinda strongly believe that this film will certainly do for him what Chak De! did for Shahrukh Khan. It’s better if we leave that for the audience to decide, no?

For those who expect high-drama scenes featuring the two actors together, here’s some news: According to our buddy the roving reporter, Nihalani has specifically asked the writer of his film to create a special role for his special friend Shotgun, to be just a cameo. If the same buddy is to be believed, the chances of Shatrughan and Govinda sharing screen space are very low. Reportedly Shatru, who was discharged from hospital recently after bypass surgery is excited about shooting for the film, his first in two years after Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakht Charitra 2.

While a Hollywood film with the same title broke box-office records in the West, we hope our Indian Avatar does the same here…fingers crossed!Subscribe to me on YouTube
