It is likely that the Joker director will not be directing the Dabangg dude in Sajid Nadiadwala’s forthcoming production. Is this because his sci-fi click tanked almost as it was released today?
We were surprised when we heard that Shirish Kunder’s ambitious 3D film Joker didn’t not make it out of 2D. It lost yet another dimension when its leading man Akshay Kumar abruptly disowned the film. Going by the negative reviews that the film got after its release this morning, we can safely that Joker was, after all, a dimensionless exercise and a waste of everybody’s money, producers, actors and audiences alike. Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “The initial shows were in 10 percent to 15 percent to 20 percent range, while the single screens in the mass-dominated belt recorded better occupancies. What comes as a shock is the low turnout despite the presence of A-list stars in the movie.”
Friends of ours – hardcore Akshay Kumar fans who went to watch the film first day first show as they always do – had to go home disappointed as the show was cancelled. This is perhaps a first for a Khiladi Kumar film. He had bounced back into the game with Rowdy Rathore, but it seems that Joker might upset the apple cart once more.
But there is more bad news in store for not Akshay, but Shirish Kunder. The price he is going to pay for his sci-fi-fantasy is likely to be higher than he could have imagined. From what we are told, Joker has cost Kunder his film with Salman Khan. Initially he was supposed to helm Kick, the remake of a Telugu film. Now we hear that Kunder is not a part of that Sajid Nadiadwala production any more. We aren’t sure if this has really happened, but if it has, we would not be terribly surprised, even though somewhere deep within our cynical hearts go out to the Joker director for the body blow to his career.
And we cannot help wondering just who is behind this…Nadiadwala or Salman? Or perhaps a certain peeved Mr Kumar?
