Siddharth Shukla: I ignored Karan Johar’s first call thinking it must be a prank!

The Balika Vadhu actor is ready for his big Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and the actor seems to focus on the silver screen rather than small…

Popular TV actor Siddharth Shukla is non-committal about continuing TV. However, the actor is super excited about his Bollywood debut and even revealed how he bagged a plum offer to romance Alia Bhatt and make Varun Dhawan insecure in Karan Johar film.

When Siddharth was quizzed if he used Colors celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa as a ploy to impress Karan, he said,“To be honest I did not even speak to any of the judges (Madhuri Dixit Nene, Karan Johar and Remo D’Souza) off camera thinking that would be wannabe.”

Then how did Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania happen? “During Jhalak I got a call from Karan. I did not take it then as I did not recognize the number. Then I got a text from him. I again ignored it thinking it must be a prank. Later he called back I explained was busy with shooting. I asked forgiveness for delay saying that I was scared that somebody is pulling my leg.”

Ask the dude if he’s playing a parallel lead opposite Varun and he circumspect, “Why don’t you watch it and label it for yourself? I am very much aware that I am a TV actor, who has a certain audience there are also people who don’t know me. My role will cater to my market.”

He described his character Angad in HSKD as,“A sweet boy whose niceness makes life hell for Kavya (Alia Bhatt).”

The actor who rose to fame as Shiv from Balika Vadhu credits his success to small screen, however ask about his future in telly land and the actor evades any questions on future. Does that mean that Siddharth Shukla is ready to bid adieu to TV? The actor said,“As of now I am shooting for Balika Vadhu. The current track centres on me and I am giving it all I have. As for the future I don’t know, but one thing is for sure I will always give TV it’s due credit, I am what I am because of TV. I will never forget that Karan saw me dancing on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa when he choose me for his film project.”

Talking about his cult show Balika Vadhu  (Colors) which got him name, fame and Jhalak, Siddharth says “ Working with veterans like Sureka Sikhri and Anoop Soni you really have to up your grade. I must also thank my director (Siddharth Sengupta and Pradeep Yadav) for getting the goods out of me. TV has surely made me comfortable in front of the camera, I remember I could not say abcd in front of the camera at first.”

He added,“Just how easy TV has made it for made it me was clear on first day of my film shooting. The director Shashank Khaitan told me that it would be a tough day as we have to can four pages , so are you ready? I told him are you kidding in Balika we daily shoot 20 pages.”

So des he feel that TV actors are finally getting their due? “Yes today film producers are giving us that chance for they know that we already have a face value which they can successfully tap into. If they launch a brand new comer, they will have to start from the scratch. ”

But have we not seen cases where TV stars make it big on the silver screen? Sid says, “Well that all boils down to luck and hard work.”

This Mumbai born bred also does not feel that doing TV has over exposed him“ I don’t think so for I began with Sony (Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na) and then Star One (Jaane Pehchaane Se Ye Ajnabbi), which were not very popular on TRP/ GRP. I have don’t just two big shows Balika Vadhu and Jhalak so I don’t think that is much.”

Siddharth is all praise for his Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania co-stars Aalia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan( Humpty), “Alia is so natural that she does not die to get into the character,Varun on the other hand works on it. As for me I just observe them and react.”

Well, we wish this dishy dude from the small screen all the very best and hope he takes giant steps on the silver screen soon…
