KJo’s latest episode of Koffee With Karan 4 was truly one to watch out for
Karan Johar managed to bring together former rivals and Gulaab Gang co-stars Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Juhi Chawla. The actors were grace personified and even opened up about their relationship and their much-spoken-about ‘rivalry’. As the Bollywood beauties warmed up to Karan, they got talking about their equation then and now. Both Madhuri and Juhi denied that there was ever any rivalry between them, attributing the hoopla about the percieved rivalry to their hectic schedules. They also said that before Gulaab Gang they never actually had the opportunity to meet. Though the actors maintained the same stance throughout the show, a cold wave between them was hard to miss.
However, Juhi lent the entire story credibility as she confessed to have refused a film as she did not want to play second fiddle to the dhak dhak girl. Admitting to her momentary lapse of judgement, Juhi said that after enjoying the attention on the sets of Yash Chopra’s Darr, she was wary of working being cast in the role of Nisha in Dil Toh Pagal Hai, as she did not want to be share the space with Madhuri. The role eventually went to actress Karisma Kapoor. The bubbly actor even admitted that she regretted her decision later.
However, when asked by KJo about working together with Madhuri in Gulaab Gang, the affable heroine candidly admitted that she took up the movie because of Madhuri. She went on to say that initially, she could not see herself as a shrewd politician, but accepted the role after learning of Madhuri’s presence in the film. The highlight of the show was when some young guns preofessed their love for the two beauties.
While Varun Dhawan and Ranbir Kapoor shared some sweet memories of the actors, Sidharth Malhotra and Ranveer Singh made the ladies blush. Sidharth particularly left Madhuri scandalised when he said that “she is someone you would like to take to your bedroom”; Ranveer dancing Dhak dhak karne laga and Ghoonghat ki aad se had the ladies in splits.
