Singer Manna Dey in a critical condition: admitted to hospital in Bangalore

The legendary singer was admitted to a hospital in Bangalore after contracting a chest infection

On Sunday morning the legendary singer Manna Dey was admitted to a hospital in Bangalore. The singer had contracted a chest infection earlier and was being treated at his home in the city. He was  shifted after his condition deteriorated.

The ninety four year old singer was said to be stable now. Fans of Dey took to social networking sites like Twitter and offered prayers for his condition to improve. The veteran singer, who turned 94 on May 1 conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honour in cinema in 2007.

Dey was acclaimed for his ability to appeal to a whole generation of music lovers across barriers such as language or genre. Some of his most famous songs include several popular songs that went on to achieve much recognition like  ‘Ae meri zohra jabeen‘ (Waqt),  Zindagi kaisi hai paheli’ (Anand) and the song Yeh dosti from Sholay.
