Sonakshi Sinha and Sidharth Malhotra will be teaming up for the first time in Abhay Chopra’s directorial debut, a modern day adaptation of Ittefaq. We now hear that the film will go on floors next year in February. A leading tabloid reported stating that Ittefaq’s shooting will start in the first week of Feb. A source told the tabloid, “The script and dates have finally been locked and the film will be shot in a start-to-finish, 60-day schedule in India as well as international locations.” Based on the remake of 1969 murder mystery going by the same title, Sona and Sid will be coming together for the first time. While Sidharth will step into Rajesh Khanna’s shoes for the remake, Sonakshi will reprise Nanda’s role.
We had earlier stated how the film will be produced under the Dharma and Red Chillies banner along with BR Films. Abhay Chopra, grand nephew of late Yash Chopra, will make his directorial debut with this film. As the film falls in the murder mystery genre, it’ll be quite an interesting watch. In Bollywood, we haven’t really had a lot of fans when it comes to this genre but the change in audience’s wants to see something different might make Ittefaq a film to look forward to. It’s a big deal for Sidharth to fill in the shoes of Rajesh Khanna, who is a legend. (ALSO READ: Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha’s Ittefaq remake will be a quick two-hour film)
On the same, Malhotra had earlier stated, “I am extremely excited for ‘Ittefaq’. It is a remake of the super-hit 1969 film ‘Ittefaq.’ The benchmark for me has already been set as superstar Rajesh Khanna was a part of the film back then, and I have to match up to his acting abilities in this remake.” We hear that the film might not be a copy-paste of the 1969 Ittefaq as the film didn’t have any songs and that most of the action occurred in one night’s time. The Sid-Sonakshi starrer will have songs and a new climax as opposed to the old movie. However, if you’re expecting some romance sequences between them, you’ll be disappointed for it won’t be happening.
The 1969 Ittefaq itself is a remake of the British film, Singpost To Murder (1964). The story revolves around a painter, who is suspected of killing his wife. It was also one of the few films of that era in Bollywood which didn’t have any songs. At the release of the film, the film did not earn a lot of moolah when it got released but is now hailed as one of the best films of the late Yash Chopra. Will Sonakshi and Sidharth be able to do justice to this murder mystery? What are your thoughts, BollywoodLifers?
