Looks like the tables have turned and the divas who were once lauded for their style statements are now disappointing. And the one person who has been bashed by fashion critics over and over again has made her way into their good books from the start of 2014
The Star Guild Awards 2014 was a star-studded affair, as expected. And it made headlines when Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan hugged onstage. But there was much more to the evening, especially style-wise. And a few shockers – the usually stylish Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor Khan were dressed dreadfully. Sunny Leone, who is a headturner in anything she wears, looked so flashy that she made our heads turn…away.
In fact, very few of the usual suspects from B-town made it past our eagle-eyed fashion judges.
Surprise, surprise! Sonakshi Sinha was a stunner at this do. The babe has not only lost a helluva lot of weight, but seems to have hired a new stylist too. In a Rachel Roy black jumpsuit teamed with a pair of spiked Steve Madden heels, the Lootera girl looted our hearts, even if her outfit should ideally have been a little longer. And even when glam doll Kareena Kapoor Khan shared the frame, our eyes remained glued to Sona. Bebo wore a pearl and gold gown, with her brown hair stark-straight, with glitter-eyes and a vivid pout not making our grade. The babe opted for her favourite black ankle-strap heels – hardly apropos for the dress, no!
Deepika Padukone was seen in a black ‘n’ blue Shehlaa lehengaa with a short choli. The top half was fine, the skirt seemed to belong elsewhere, certainly not on the usually picture perfect Dippy. Sunny Leone looked not like she had bagged a jackpot, but that she WAS the jackpot! The adult film actor was seen in a gold mermaid gown and dazzled, not quite in a nice way.
Jacqueline Fernandez went desi in an Anand Kabra saree teamed with a long blouse. Why, you ask? We did too. A shorter top perhaps would have done better on the lovely lass. Another bombshell in desi duds was Bipasha Basu in a Binal Shah saree. The Bong beauty looked really pretty.
Conventional black did its thing on the red carpet too. Dedh Ishqiya actor Huma Qureshi opted for a Gauri and Nainika gown in a string halter avatar that seemed to be a little too…err…inadequate for the lady’s generous curves. Her Gangs of Wasseypur co-star followed suit in Varun Bahl fusion saree – that sheer bodice didn’t work for Richa Chaddha, though we applaud her adventurous spirit. Vaani Kapoor wore a Nikhil Thampi black and gold outfit and looked bewitchingly beautiful. Aahishiqui 2 actor Shraddha Kapoor chose a lush Donna Karan Atelier embellished gown with a long train. She’s young and gorgeous, so don’t you think she should wear more vibrant hues?
Of the male actors, Ranveer Singh in a Gucci suit looked really sophisticated, a fabulous change from his more outre choices in recent times. It’s the Lootera pair who won the night at the Star Guild awards. Do you agree, BollywoodLifers?
