Four of Indian cinema’s imminent personalities, including Ramesh Sippy and Nana Patekar, received the country’s most prestigious Padma awards
President Pranab Mukherjee handed out the Padma honours (announced on January 25) to three of Bollywood’s most eminent personalities – English Vinglish star Sridevi, ex-censor board chief Sharmila Tagore and Telugu producer D Ramanaidu. Rajesh Khanna and Jaspal Bhatti were conferred the honour posthumously.
Other personalities who received the Padma Bhushan include boxer Mary Kom, industrialist Adi Godrej and ace cricketer Rahul Dravid.
Padma Shri, the fourth highest award conferred by the Republic of India was given to B-town producer Ramesh Sippy and actor Nana Patekar. The honour was also conferred upon photographer Pablo Bartholomew, shooter Vijay Kumar, wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, theatre personality B Jayashree, entrepreneur Vandana Luthra and boxer Dingko Singh.
