Unlike other non-star vehicles, KJo’s campus caper found a huge audience
When we visited a popular suburban single screen theatre to watch Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year on Friday we weren’t surprised to see the ‘Housefull’ board and a bunch of punters trying to make a quick buck by selling the tickets in black. It is time to say that Karan’s kids, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt have arrived. No doubt the newbies had KJo and Shahrukh Khan backing them up, but the result of their hard is definitely reaping rewards at the box office.
Films without the Khans or few other big stars rarely get a decent opening, but SOTY broke the trend with an opening day collection of about Rs 9.25 crores. Despite the mixed reviews from critics, as per early estimates, on day two the film made Rs 10 crores in India. SOTY now stands at a domestic box office total of Rs 19.25 cr which is impressive for a film that has debutant actors. So it wouldn’t be incorrect to say that apart from Mr Johar’s BO clout, the new kids on the block have managed to charm the audience. Watch this space for more updates on the students of the year!
