Subhash Ghai: I would have changed Katrina Kaif’s name to Matrina!

The popular belief in the industry is that the show man is obsessed with the letter ‘M’

Subhash Ghai has launched some of the most prettiest faces in Bollywood. The maker of Ram Lakhan and Hero has given B-town Madhuri Dixit Nene, Manisha Koirala, Mahima Chaudhary and now Mishti Mukherji. While Mishti was originally called Indrani Chakraborty, it is believed that Ghai rechristened this newbie for for a grand entry in Bollywood. And when KaanchiThe Unbreakable director was quizzed about his fetish for renaming his heroines, this is what he said, “Her name is Indrani Chakraborty. Mishti is her pet name. In fact, she herself said that since Indrani seems long, she’d prefer to be introduced as Mishti. If I were fixated, I’d have changed Katrina’s (Kaif) name to Matrina or Kareena’s (Kapoor) name to Mareena. They were also new when they did my films Yuvvraaj and Yaadein respectively.”

That’s not it the filmmaker also had a take on the current crop of top heroines in Bollywood. He said to a leading filmi magazine, “Most heroines today are item girls. Innocence is lost. My heroines had both these qualities… from Tina Munim to Mahima Choudhary.”

Well, we wonder if Ghai restricts his habit of renaming actors that he launches alone. What do you think BollywoodLifers, would Katrina and Kareena be more successful if the filmmaker had renamed them?

But Mr. Ghai, Katrina and Kareena were not making their debut with your movies, were they? And at that time, if you had even made a suggestion you would have incurred the wrath of Salman Khan (and maybe the Kapoor clan).
