The macho star of B-town turns 51 today
Born on August 11, 1961 Suniel Shetty – popularly known as Anna – made his Bollywood debut in the 1992 film Balwaan. For two years success eluded the actor until the action thriller Mohra in 1994, which was a hit.Then followed his success streak with Gopi Kishan in which he played a dual role. The movie did decent business and Shetty began to surface as as a known star in films like Bhai and Hu Tu Tu, among others. His role in patriotic movies like Border, Refugee, Qayamat: City Under Threat and LOC: Kargil were critically appreciated.
Shetty also received the Filmfare award in the best villain category for his performance in the Dhadkan. Then came the phase where he proved his mettle in comic roles, delivering hits like Hera Pheri and its sequel, Phir Hera Pheri.
From being an actor to becoming a producer with his home production company Popcorn Motion Pictures Ltd, Shetty has tried his hand at variety and scaled new heights! Movies like Khel and Bhagham Bhaag are his home productions. He also starred in Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na as the main villain, and in movies such as Shootout at Lokhandwala, Mission Istaanbul, Red Alert: The War Within, De Dana Dan, Thank You and No Problem. His last outing was Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai in 2012.
