The society that houses the characters of the popular sitcom is gearing up for a new look, but it won’t be the only change you’ll see

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, which airs on SAB TV is gearing up for some perceptible changes that will be visible by the end of this month. And one of the changes is going to be in Popatlal’s single status! Patrakaar (Journalist) Popatlal Pandey’s wedding will take place soon! Popatlal (Shyam Pathak) you all know is a thin, wiry, middle-aged bachelor whose only faithful companion is his black umbrella. Popatlal always dreams about getting married and Asit Modi, the writer-producer of TMKOC revealed that his dream may come true. “We are debating at which point in the storyline the wedding should take place,” he said.

That’s not the only change awaited. The team of TMKOC has travelled within India for some of its episodes – the Rann of Kutch for the Republic Day episode being one of the memorable ones – and now they are planning to visit an international destination. When, we ask. “As soon as possible,” Modi smiled.

Of all the changes, the first one you would see is the makeover of Gokuldhaam society! The society that houses the characters of TMKOC is, in reality, just a set that’s spaced out over 25,000-30,000 square feet with three wings containing six flats each. From the first episode, the society has looked just the same, with its beige and brown coloured walls. But no more. While the location remains the same, the look definitely won’t. “You will see a new Gokuldhaam society by the end of March 2012,” said Modi.
