Lata Mangeshkar: I used to travel alone at night

The legendary singer reminisces about her young years in the city of dreams and her father’s contribution to her career

Singer Lata Mangeshkar recently got nostalgic at a recent event which was held to announce the Dinanath Mangeshkar Awards which felicitates actors, singers and social workers. The singer recalled the early days of her life when she was a career oriented girl. The stalwart implied how Mumbai wasn’t as safe as used to be several years ago.“I was the kind of woman who was extremely enthusiastic about work. I used to travel alone late nights. I was fearless and used to enjoy the commute,” she said. She also recollected how her father contributed to her as a singer. “I have learnt my singing from that man and there are a lot of memories associated with him,” she said. The award function held in honour of her father is a yearly ritual and stars like Aamir Khan have been a part of the function in the past. Expect some big industry names at the event this year too!
