Ugly first look poster: Anurag Kashyap’s kidnap drama looks intense

The official poster of Anurag’s next film, which has been selected for Directors’ Fortnight – an independent section held in parallel to the Cannes Film Festival – is out

The first look poster of Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly shows a li’l girl sitting inside a car, surrounded by a couple of men with only their silhouettes visible. We like the washed out, sepia shade of the poster, which lends it a very retro, old-school look. We hear the story of Ugly is about a small girl who is kidnapped and how her parents – who are separated, reunite in the search for her. Ronit Roy and Tejaswini Kolhapure play the protagonists. The film was in the news recently as its title sounded similar to Kabir Sadanand’s Fugly, and Kabir was furious as Kashyap didn’t pay any heed to his requests of retracting the title.

It’s a great year for Kashyap. Along with Ugly, there’s Bombay Talkies, Monsoon Shootout and Dabba that have been selected for the Cannes Film Festival. We like the look and feel of the poster. It’s an AK film after all; it has to be different and unusual from the rest…
