American singer and Desperate Housewives actor Vanessa Williams and her daughter Sasha join an international team to give voice to the US version of Nikhil Advani’s film
A good film’s always a good film, no matter how much money it makes. All it needs is time, and the audience will flow in. Such is the case with Nikhil Advani’s Delhi Safari. India’s first fully indigenously accomplished animated film, although praised critically, failed to set the cash registers ringing. However, DS has managed to get an American release in over 70 screens.
And part of the cast are some of Hollywood’s most talented singers and actors. The Desperate Housewives actor Vanessa Williams will be voicing a character in the film, as well as singing to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s tunes. Vanessa will be the voice of Begum, the mother leopard. Her daughter Sasha too is a part of it, playing a squirrel! An excited Vanessa tweeted, “Worked w my real life daughter Sasha on new animated film #DelhiSafari due out Dec 7th. I sing as Begum, squirrel by Sasha!”
In the Hindi version, the same character was voiced by Urmila Matondkar, whose performance was praised by the critics. Other Hollywood actors who have lent their voices to the film include the Glee comedienne Jane Lynch, Back to the Future actor Christopher Lloyd and the Everybody Loves Raymond actor Brad Garrett.
Quite a coup by director Nikhil Advani to rope in so many big firang names, we must say! Now we sit back in wait and watch mode to see if Delhi Safari can set the cash registers ringing in the US, where it releases on December 7.
